Experience God's great outdoors while enjoying the company of friends and family! Most of our recreation options are free to any guest of Spruce Lake Retreat. If there is a small fee, it will be noted. Some activities noted below must be requested in advance.
Hiking Trails & Waterfalls
Spend some time wandering through God’s creation on our beautiful wooded trails. Walk though rhododendron thickets, a lush, dark section of evergreens and a scenic meadow. We have 7 marked trails that range from easy to difficult and ˝ to 2+ miles. A booklet is available at the front desk to guide you through our nature trail along which one of our waterfalls is located. Find the larger waterfalls and a scenic overlook when you hike the Spruce Mountain trail.
Basketball, Volleyball & Tennis Courts
We encourage you to get outdoors while playing your favorite high-energy game! Spruce Lake has outdoor volleyball and basketball courts. In the Lakeview Program Center, we also have an indoor basketball court and two indoor volleyball courts. A wide range of tennis skills are practiced by young and old alike on our two outdoor tennis courts. Bring your own equipment or borrow ours, free of charge.
Shuffleboard, Horseshoes & Quoits
Whether a novice or a 'pro', you are guaranteed a fun time when friends and family gather to play a game of shuffleboard. We have four outdoor courts and one indoor court to accommodate any type of weather. We also have horseshoes and quoits for use on the lawn below Spruce Lodge. Please feel free to use our equipment.
Soccer, Baseball & Game Fields
Gather a group of friends and take a 1/4 mile walk out to our "Ball field" (in our Wilderness Area). Play a game of baseball on our diamond, kick a soccer ball around on our soccer field, or toss a Frisbee in an exciting game of Ultimate Frisbee. Feel free to use our equipment or bring your own.
Lakeview Program Center
This spacious gymnasium can be converted to two volleyball courts or a basketball court and a volleyball court. It also serves as our largest meeting room, accommodating up to 500 people and including a large stage. A special feature of this building is its large doors which open to provide a view of the surrounding woods. This building can be reserved in advance for special events or family group activities.
Nature Center
Come on inside to our educational Nature Center. Using God's Creation as a theme and teaching tool, our staff naturalists have created a special place where children, teens, and adults can get 'up close and personal' with skulls, bones, skins, snakes, frogs, feathers, and so much more! If you think this is something that your group would be interested in, we might be able to provide this for your group for a small fee at special prearranged hours.
Paddle Boats
What better way to spend a summer afternoon than paddle boating on our Spruce Lake? Our free paddle boats provide a great way to relax while enjoying the natural setting that our woods provide.
Mini Golf & Frisbee Golf
Enjoy our 18-hole, nature-themed mini-golf course or our 9-hole Frisbee golf! We'll provide all the equipment needed as well as the beautiful outdoor setting. A small per-person fee applies to the mini-golf but 5 and under golf for free!
Swimming Pool
Cool off in the heat of the summer or come to relax in the sun! Our heated, outdoor pool is open afternoons and many evenings during the summer season. All of our lifeguards have American Red Cross certifications and will be on duty to guarantee a safe, fun place for you and your friends to relax!
