About Spruce Lake Retreat

Through the rich history of the Mennonite faith perspective, Spruce Lake Retreat has encouraged persons from a variety of traditions to a deeper faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.

In ministry since 1963, Spruce Lake was founded by and is affiliated with the churches and individuals within Franconia Mennonite Conference of Mennonite Church USA. Actual ownership, however, is by Franconia Mennonite Camp Association, a body of individuals who represent not only Mennonites but other Christians who believe in the ministry of Spruce Lake Retreat.

Spruce Lake is a member of Mennonite Camping Association (MCA) and Christian Camps and Conference Centers (CCCA).

“Pointing People Toward Christ” is the core purpose of Spruce Lake’s varied ministry expressed through Wilderness Camp & Expeditions, Group & Individual Retreats, Outdoor School and Event Programming – all taking place in an affirming natural sanctuary of woodland, waterfalls and mountain streams. Lodging areas, family campground and natural areas all create an “at-home” atmosphere of peacefulness and contentment.

Underlying Spruce Lake Retreat is the foundational belief that Jesus Christ is central to life. As the "author and finisher" of our faith, the complete revelation of who God is, Jesus becomes for us the Holy Light which guides our thoughts and action. He is the Creator, Savior and Lord of our lives.

Our core values of service and faith are grounded in the Mennonite Statement of Faith, summarized as follows. We believe:

• In one God eternally existing as Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

• That God has revealed Himself in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments, the divinely inspired, entirely trustworthy, relevant, and authoritative Word of God.

• That in the beginning God created all things by His Son.

• That humankind sinned, bringing separation from God and death upon the human race.

• In restoration of repentant man through the shed blood and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ by grace through faith apart from works.

• That the Holy Spirit convicts of sin, effects the new birth, gives guidance in life, empowers for service, and enables perseverance in faith and holiness.

• That Jesus, when he lived on earth, revealed a way for people to live peacefully as devoted servants of God.

• That the church is the body of Christ, a people redeemed and obedient to the Word of God, in a fellowship of love, intercession, and healing.

• That Jesus Christ will come again to gather His church, and judge all people. God will reign with Christ in justice, righteousness and peace for ever.
